Each week we invite a woman or man from the Linnea Lund community to talk about their relationship with clothes their wardrobe and how they like to mix and match our iconic cashmere pieces. This time, Linda Scardacchi founder of the Spendolini Maglieria workshop, producer of our cashmere yarns at Linnea Lund, is the#MyLinneaLund woman of the week! 

We often talk to you about the knitting workshop of Marco. But even if he is running the family company, it is mamma Linda who is the founder, at the heart of the soul and the carrier of knowledge. At 75 years old, this little piece of woman, with a rounded cheerful face and sparkling look, has an eye on everything. Nothing is left out of sight from her, as this workshop is her second home. We must say that between those walls, is hidden the work of a lifetime….

She is the perfect mamma, she looks after everyone that works in the company which she created in 1967 with her husband Leonardo. He was on the machine, and she created the “maglieria”, as we say in Italian, « the cut of the mesh », the assembling and the finishing once the product is knitted. A work that she learned with her young teenager hands when she was only 14 years old, that is part of her since then, and that she continues to worship meticulously with the same passion, and patience.

The gesture is still confident and mastered. And, with the years it even became like something inured. A level of perfection that will almost make us forget the working hours, research and expertise that are necessary to reach such a high level of excellence. Somehow, as Linda like to remind “behind every piece of clothes, there is the work and endorsement of tens of people”, such as the needlewomen that she trained.

Each of them received the gift of the “knowledge of the mamma”. A knowledge that she passed without measures and with passion and kindness. Thanks to Linda, the new generation of needlewoman continues to work “the traditional way”, on manual needling engine with a foot pedal. And, at Linnea Lund, we wanted to greet the work and path of this woman. Thanks to, the Italian savoir faire is in good hands it pursues and resists as far as it can to the injunction and other consequences of the fast fashion and intensive production. Moreover, it’s a strong satisfaction and a high pride for Linda to know that Marco has taken over the company and that he fights by her side for the heritage to remain as the methods of production from former days. With their human size workshop Linda and Marco contribute with fervor and talent to ensure the continued existence of the excellence of the artisanal textile in Italy. It’s an honor for Linnea Lund to walk by their side.
