Each week, we invite a woman or man from the Linnea Lund community to discuss their relationship with clothing, their wardrobe, and how they enjoy pairing our iconic cashmere pieces. This time, Piergiorgio Cariaggi, President and CEO of Cariaggi Spinning Mill, the producer of our cashmere yarns at Linnea Lund, is the #MyLinneaLund man of the week!
Once again, we leave France for the lush landscapes of the Apennines and its mountain belt. It is here, in this pristine setting, that the Cariaggi spinning mill has flourished since 1958. A family-owned enterprise founded by Piergiorgio Cariaggi's father, who is now its "Padre". With his distinctive voice and the melodic Italian accent that we cherish, he reflects on sixty years of history. He recounts the origins of this small business, which initially produced its yarn from its own herds, before evolving into the renowned spinning mill we know today. Since the 1990s, the mill has sourced its finest raw materials from lands beyond Italy, focusing on China and Mongolia. Here, Cariaggi collaborates with passionate herders who share its deep respect for nature and their flocks, ensuring the wool is ethically brushed and harvested for the animals' well-being. These goats are known for their fine and precious undercoat, a natural and noble fiber with unparalleled insulation properties that make Cariaggi yarns unmatched.
Before becoming yarn, this soft gold undergoes washing, purification, and dyeing. It then begins a delicate ballet of weaving and winding into spools, ready to be sent to our craftsman knitter, Marco, just a few kilometers away.
Cariaggi's talent lies in infusing this exceptional material with even more nobility through expertise and a love for colors. Piergiorgio's company places great emphasis on research, expertise, and the creation of a chromatic range, adding another dimension to "the most beautiful natural cashmere fiber in the world," as the Padre confides, "but also one that endures over time." Sustainability and heritage are also strong values at Cariaggi, sealing our collaboration. Like Linnea Lund, there is a strong family dimension. There is this intergenerational legacy of which Piergiorgio is proud, now seeing his sons invest in the business as he did at their age. This passing down from father to son is part of the legacy of this sustainable cashmere that will span generations, a source of pride for Linnea Lund.
