Every week, we invite a woman or a man from the Linnea Lund community to talk about their relationship with clothing, their wardrobe, and how they like to pair our iconic cashmere pieces. This time, Linda Scardacchi, founder of the Spendolini Maglieria workshop, producer of our cashmere yarns at Linnea Lund, is the #MyLinneaLund woman of the week!
We often talk about Marco's knitting workshop. But even though he runs the family business, it's mamma Linda who is the founder, the heart and soul, and the holder of the craftsmanship. At 75 years old, this petite woman, with a round and joyful face and sparkling eyes, keeps an eye on everything. Nothing escapes her, as this workshop is her second home. It must be said that behind these walls lies the work of a lifetime...
She is the perfect mamma, taking care of each employee of the company she founded in 1967 with her husband Leonardo. He was at the machine, and she took care of the "maglieria," as they say in Italian, the cutting of the knit, the assembly, and finishing once the product was knitted. It's work she learned with her young hands as a teenager at the age of 14, which has been a part of her ever since, and which she continues to meticulously practice with the same passion and patience.
Her gesture is always confident and masterful. And over the years, it has become second nature. A level of perfection that almost makes us forget the hours of work, research, and expertise required to achieve such excellence. As Linda likes to remind us, "behind every piece of clothing, there is the work and dedication of dozens of people," like the seamstresses she has trained.
Each of them has received the gift of "mamma's knowledge." A knowledge that she passes on immeasurably, with passion and kindness. Thanks to Linda, the new generation of seamstresses continues to work "in the old-fashioned way," on manual sewing machines with a pedal. At Linnea Lund, we wanted to salute the work and journey of this woman. Thanks to her, Italian craftsmanship is in good hands, enduring and resisting as much as possible the pressures and consequences of fast fashion and intensive production. Moreover, it is a great satisfaction and immense pride for Linda to know that Marco has taken over the business and is fighting alongside her to preserve this heritage and the traditional production methods. With their small-scale workshop, Linda and Marco fervently contribute their talent to ensure the continuity of artisanal textile excellence in Italy. It is an honor for Linnea Lund to stand beside them.
