My Linnea Lund: Piergiorgio Cariaggi
Each week we invite a woman or man from the Linnea Lund community to talk about their relationship with clothes, their wardrobe and how they like to mix and match our iconic cashmere pieces. This time, Piergiorgio Cariaggi, President and CEO of Cariaggi Spinning Mill, producer of our cashmere yarns at Linnea Lund, is the #MyLinneaLund man of the week!
Once is not usual, we leave France for the green landscape of the Apennins and its belt of mountains. It is there, in this preserved setting that the Cariaggi spinning mill has flourished since 1958. A family business founded by Piergiorgio Cariaggi's father, who is now its Padre. In his voice, with that lilting Italian accent that we love so much, he looks back on sixty years of history. He tells us about the origins of this small company which, in the beginning, produced its yarn from its own herds, before becoming the renowned spinning mill that we know and which, since the 1990s, has turned to lands other than Italy to select the most beautiful raw material that is possible to harvest. And it is in China and Mongolia that the Cariaggi spinning mill has set its sights. It now collaborates with passionate shepherds who, like it, have an infinite respect for nature and their herds whose wool is brushed and harvested in an artisanal way to suit the animal's well-being. Goats known for their fine and precious undercoat. Indeed, this noble and natural down fiber also has an unequalled insulating power that makes Cariaggi yarns an unparalleled raw material.
But before becoming yarn, this soft gold is washed, purified and dyed. Then begins a delicate ballet of yarns woven and put on spools to be sent to our knitting craftsman, Marco, a few kilometers away.
The talent of the Cariaggi spinning mill is to have infused this exceptional material with even more nobility thanks to its know-how and its love for colors. Piergiorgio's company places great importance on research, expertise and the creation of a chromatic range. An extra soul offered to the "natural fiber of cashmere which is the most beautiful in the world, confides the Padre, but also lasts over time."Sustainability and transmission are also strong values of the Cariaggi’s house, which seal our collaboration. As with Linnea Lund, there is a very strong family dimension. There is this intergenerational heritage of which Piergiorgio is so proud, as he now sees his sons investing in the company, like him at the same age. This transmission from father to son is part of the lineage of this durable cashmere which will cross generations and which is the pride of Linnea Lund.
